U.N. Delegates' Dining Room food fests: Iceland, China

Although portions of the pre-renovation United Nations complex have started closing to the public, the Delegates’ Dining Room remains open for weekday lunches and a couple food festivals are in the works for fall.

The cuisine of Iceland will be on display from October 6 through the 17th. And the food of Southern China takes the spotlight from October 20 through 31.

The dining room’s regular all-you-can-eat buffet — which has raised its price by $1 to $26 per person — is indeed the same food served up to the U.N. delegates. For the food fests, chefs and special ingredients are typically flown in by the host country. The price is the same for the food festivals.

Reservations are required to get a pass up to the Delegates’ Dining Room, which overlooks the East River. Jackets are required for men, and jeans and tennis shoes are prohibited. If you go, be sure to allow extra time to get through security.

The dining room will close to the public from September 22 through October 3, coinciding with the start of the 63rd session of the General Assembly.

Reservations: (212) 963-7625.
