Parade of Ships underway in NY Harbor for Fleet Week



The parade of ship for Fleet Week 2008 took place in the New York Harbor this morning.

Click the video above to see the flyover from the Statue of Liberty toward the Hudson. They're Strike Fighter Squadrons VFA-143 and VFA- 211 out of NAS Oceana Virginia, according to the Navy news release.

Here's the first ship in the parade -- which should be the guided-missile cruisers USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55) -- passing the USS Intrepid, still docked at Staten Island for repairs.

Skipping ahead, here's the star of the show, the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3).

And here'e the guided-missile destroyer USS The Sullivans (DDG 68) -- as a Staten Island Ferry speeds by.

The ships will dock at Manhattan and Staten Island piers for the next few days. See the official Fleet Week website for public visiting times. Fleet Week runs through May 28.
