Knicks 'in principle' hire Mike D'Antoni as head coach
The Knicks, finally, "in principle" have a new head coach: Mike D'Antoni of the Phoenix Suns.
That's the official word from the hoops club. The New York Times, which calls D'Antoni "perhaps the best coach on the market," reports that he's expected today to sign a four-year deal with the Knicks worth $24 million.
He would replace the beleagured Isiah Thomas, who has coached the team to losing seasons every year since his arrival at Madison Square Garden in late 2003.
The Knicks are currently accepting deposits for 2008-09 season tickets and multi-game packages. Individual game tickets will go on sale in late September.
