United Nations cancels public tours on all weekends

unflags.jpgThe United Nations is no longer offering tours on weekends, and weekday public access to some key spaces -- such as the General Assembly -- will be hit-or-miss depending on whether meetings are in session.

It used to be that the weekends tours hibernated only in January and February, but there are now big signs posted -- starting in the security tent out front -- that the weekend tours are kaput.

Members of the tour guide staff said the change is permanant -- but at least (ever-changing) plans to end the tours altogether due to renovations have been pushed back at least until summer 2009.
