Today in NY: Rat firecracker ceremony, snowboarding
Today is Thursday, February 7, the first day of the Year of the Rat:
Chinatown’s New Year Firecracker Ceremony & Cultural Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Union Square Street Sessions snowboarding competition
The National Academy Museum opens three exhibitions: "Ports of Entry: Richard Morris Hunt’s Architectural Drawings from the École des Beaux-Arts and the Gates of Central Park," "Contemporary Architectural Drawings" and "Recent Acquisitions."
Special Screening — "Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show" with Vince Vaughn and Peter Billingsley at Apple SoHo at 8:30 p.m.
Christine Ebersole in "Applause" at City Center Encores
Met Opera’s "Il Barbiere di Siviglia"
Joe Henry at Lincoln Center's Allen Room
Laco Dezci Jazz Orchestra play the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden
California Cabernet wine class at Morrell & Co. at Rockefeller Center
Chili hot pepper hot chocolate is today’s flavor at City Bakery’s Hot Chocolate Festival.
The New Museum has free admission from 7 to 10 p.m. today; the Museum of Arts & Design is pay-what-you-wish from 6 to 8 p.m., and the China Institute Gallery is free from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is free all day.
Several other museums are open until 8 p.m. tonight: Museum of Arts & Design, Jewish Museum, National Museum of the American Indian, Paley Center for Media, Museum of Biblical Art and the China Institute Gallery.
