'Shrek:The Musical' hits Broadway on November 8
"Shrek: The Musical" will hit Broadway on November 8 with opening night set for December 14, Variety reported this week.
Tickets are not yet on sale.
Shrek the green ogre and Donkey haven't been cast, but Princess Fiona will be played by Sutton Foster, who won a Tony in 2002 for her starring role in "Thoroughly Modern Millie." Christopher Sieber will play Lord Farquaad and Kecia Lewis-Evans will be the dragon.
The Post reports "Shrek" will be a $30 million production, and offers up these details about the story:
"Shrek" will follow the plot of the first movie, which is smart, since that movie is the best of the three. Abaire said he's opened up the movie for the stage by examining "the back story" of the characters. Why, for instance, is Fiona locked up in a tower? Why does Farquaad hate classic fairy-tale characters? "Shrek" will play the Broadway Theatre, located at 1681 Broadway, map.
Currently the theater is home to ""The Color Purple," which will close on February 24.
