New tech for NYC and travelers: bus GPS, free wi-fi

downtowngpsmap.jpgThe Downtown Connection -- the free shuttle bus that makes multiple stops along a horseshoe-shaped route from Battery Park City to South Street Seaport -- actually has functioning GPS you can check online.

There's now free wi-fi at Jackson Square Park, courtesy of the developer building condos at One Jackson Square, according to the Sun.

The mostly-complete British Memorial Garden at Hanover Square has free wi-fi now.

You can sign up for Notify NYC, the free, pilot program that sends text or e-mail messages about "significant events impacting the Lower Manhattan area," such as hazardous material releases, major building fires or coastal storms.

The free MTA subway service advisory e-mail system now lets you edit your account to do crazy stuff like add or remove subway lines.

You can now buy individual chapters online of Lonely Planet's guide to NYC.

Dopplr, a new social media site that lets you share your travel plans with friends.

FlightWait tells you if your flight is delayed. (via Lifehacker.)

Continental is joining up with JetBlue to offer in-air wi-fi, according to Jaunted. Elsewhere, Gadling has the pricing for American's upcoming wi-fi: $10 for three hours or less, or $12.95 for longer flights.
