Bite-size lychee brownies at Amai Tea and Bake House

Nichelle Stephens, a co-founder of the Cupcakes Take the Cake blog, is the desserts correspondent for NewYorkology. She hits up desserts sweet and savory in all the boroughs. By day, she does bookkeeping and Tuesday nights she can be found laughing with some of the best female comics she can find at Chicks and Giggles at Ochi's Lounge.
If you love drinking tea and you like tiny sweets, then head to Amai Tea and Bake House. Located on a quiet block on Third Avenue near Union Square, Amai opened in October. Amai has a wide selection of teas that are organized in a tea card catalog behind the counter. Amai's focus is putting an exotic twist on traditional baked goods like brownies and shortbread cookies.
I stopped in this week to sample a lychee brownie and a few tea-infused cookies. The lychee brownie knocked my wool socks off! The lychee with the chocolate was a great combination of east meets west, and I love how the flavors complemented each other. Also, the brownies are bite-sized so you can indulge without worry and they are only $1.50 each.
I also had three tea-infused cookies: red vanilla, white tea with strawberry and lemongrass ginger. Of the three, my favorite cookie is the lemongrass ginger which to me is the grownup version of the ginger snaps I devoured as a kid. The yummy cookies are also tiny and you can buy three cookies for $2.
By the way, owner Kelli Barnard is also a blogger. When she's not baking, she blogs at LovesCool, which is all about sweets.
