Trump SoHo hotel accident kills 1; construction halted

There's a stop-work order at the Trump SoHo hotel condominium construction site after a worker fell 42 floors to his death and three others were injured, according to the Daily News.
The construction company, Bovis Lend Lease, was also the safety manager at the deconstruction of the Deutsche Bank building adjacent to Ground Zero, "where violations led to a fire that killed two firefighters last year," as the Daily News put it.
Trump SoHo is located at 246 Spring St., map. (In the Google Maps street view, the site is still a vacant lot.)
Monday's accident is far from an isolated incident, as an architect was badly injured at the Goldman Sachs site just northwest of Ground Zero in December when seven tons of steel fell 13 floors onto his trailer.
In early-December, glass fell from the recently completed New York Times building, injuring pedestrians below.
In October, eight people were hurt when debris fell from the Bank of America skyscraper under construction across the street from Bryant Park.
In November the Department of Buildings issued its annual report on construction safety, concluding there were fewer fatalities in 2007 but "accidents on high-rise construction sites increased, from 23 to 42."
