Third Thursdays lectures: architecture, history and free
Downtown Alliance has released its list of free Third Thursday lectures -- which combine a few of New Yorkers' favorite things -- culture, snobby access to off-limits spaces, and competition.
Locations for this year's events include the New York Stock Exchange and World Trade Center 7.
The competition comes in the form of the odd rules about scoring a spot at the monthly event - always held on the third Thursday of the month. But on the 9th of every month is when the RSVPs open, and the spots are generally long gone by the time the third Thursday rolls around.
All lectures start at 7 p.m.
Journalist Pete Hamill will kick off the '08 season January 17 in the Broad Street Ballroom, which was built in 1929 in the Classical Revival style as the headquarters of the Lee-Higginson Bank.
