'Color Purple' to close on Broadway on February 24

Based on the Alice Walker novel of the same name and powered by the house of Oprah, "The Color Purple" was nominated for 11 Tony Awards in 2006, but only walked home with best actress in a musical, for LaChanze.

Until a few weeks ago, "American Idol" start Fantiasia had been in the musical, which currently features Chaka Khan, Bebe Winans and Lakisha Jones.

When finished, it will have racked up 910 regular performances and 30 previews, according to Playbill.

"The Color Purple" plays at the Broadway Theatre, located at 1681 Broadway, map.
