New Museum free Thursday nights from 7 to 10 p.m.
 Following its grand reopening in its new Lower East Side location, the new New Museum of Contemporary Art has also joined the list of museums with free hours each week. You can get into the New Museum free from 7 to 10 p.m. every Thursday and skip the $12 adult admission.
Another expansion to the freebie list is the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, which is free every weekday through February 29, as well as Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. until noon. The rest of the weekend, the adult admission price is $8.
