MaxJet files for bankruptcy, cancels all flights
MAXjet, the all-business class airline between New York and London, today filed for bankruptcy and has canceled all its flights, according to the company's website.
"With today’s fuel prices and the resulting impact on the credit climate for airlines, we are forced to take this drastic measure," the two-year-old airline states on its website.
The airline has contracted with Eos Airlines, another all-business class airline, to handle passengers awaiting a return flight between New York and London. (Recently, MaxJet also added service to Las Vegas and Los Angeles.)
On December 10 amid speculation it was going out of business, MaxJet issued a press release stating it "confirms that it is operating all flights and has no plans to change its schedule."
MaxJet said it filed for Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code on December 24.
