nymarathon07.happyitalia.jpgING NYC Marathon weekend is all but wrapping up for 2007 with Martin Lel of Kenya crowned the fastest man in the race, while Paula Radcliffe of England took it for the women. In the wheelchair division, Kurt Fearnley and Edith Hunkeler were the fastest.

The tragedy of the weekend took place Saturday morning in Central Park when 28-year-old Ryan Shay collapsed and later died during the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for the Men’s Marathon.

More than 38,000 competitors took part in the ING NYC Marathon, which stretches through all five boroughs. NewYorkology checked in with the runners today around noon on Brooklyn's Fourth Avenue -- where even some young rockers set up their drum kit, amps and guitars in front of a market to cheer on the racers.
