Johansen, MacDermot, Reid share Staten Island stage

sicomposers.jpgAn unlikely trio of Staten Island's most famous musicians will take the St. George Theatre stage October 27 with an eclectic mix of styles.

The Staten Island stars are David Johansen of the iconic punk band New York Dolls, jazz pianist Galt MacDermot, who composed "Hair" and guitarist Vernon Reid of Living Colour and co-founder of the Black Rock Coalition.

The pitch:

The program will include a 20-minute set of new music by each artist. The three will then come together on stage for one amazing finale!
The setting isn't bad either. The recently renovated St. George (in Spanish and Italian Baroque styles) first opened in 1929, and was recently featured on tours for Open House New York. It's located just a few minutes from the Staten Island Ferry at 35 Hyatt St., map.

Tickets for the event, called The Staten Island Composers Project: Live at the St. George Theatre, are available at Ticketmaster from $25 to $65.
