Credit cards coming to 'almost all' taxis by January

taxitech.jpgStarting today, all New York City cabs are quired to start phasing in credit card machines and GPS units. However, despite what you've maybe heard or read, that doesn't mean every taxi will be accepting credit cards by sundown.

By the end of January "almost all yellow taxicabs" will have the new technology, according to the Taxi and Limousine Commission.

What does start today is that cabs due for their annual inspections must have the new equipment installed.

In September, some drivers held a 48-hour strike to protest the requirement, and another strike is a "very strong possibility," according to the Daily News.
