Coney Island's Astroland to reopen for 2008 season

"ASTROLAND Will Be Back For the 2008 Season! Opening day:Sunday, March 16th, 2008," Astroland's website now proclaims.

But it's only a one-year extension from developer Thor Equities, which hopes to raze the park and build a glitzy year-round amusement area, according to the Daily News.

Regardless of what happens after that, the landmarked Cyclone rollercoaster is safe.

Thor also granted extensions to eight boardwalk vendors -- including "Shoot the Freak" -- according to the Associated Press.
