A peek from inside Woolworth's for-the-rich-only top

woolworthbuilding2006.JPGWhile the lobby of the Woolworth Building and parts of the 21st floor were open last weekend to a handful of lucky people for OpenHouse New York, the Curbed real estate blog made a bigger score. It got onto the higher floors currently under renovation -- including the indoor observation deck.

See Curbed for the pictures.

After the renovation, it will remain off limits to the public. (However, the lobby may open again next year for Open House NY, which is scheduled for October 4 and 5, 2008.)

The Woolworth Building is one of many stingy skyscrapers with observation decks closed to the public. Other off-limits high-in-the-sky views include the Chrysler Building's Cloud Club and the observation decks at the AIG Building and 40 Wall Street.

But luckily some of the highest ones are open, inlcuding the 102nd floor of the Empire State Building and the outdoor observation decks of Rockefeller Center.
