The Plaza centennial: fireworks, 12-foot cake, no hotel

Talk about anticlimactic.
The Plaza's centennial celebrations on October 1 won't amount to much, as the "18-month" renovation of the historic hotel won't be complete in time for the anniversary.
According to USA Today, this is what's in store for the anniversary on Monday:Starting at 7 p.m. there'll be a light show that includes fireworks (the fireworks finale looks like a huge birthday cake). And there will be a 12-foot cake designed to be a replica of The Plaza. The show is free to the public. As reported earlier on NewYorkology, The Plaza is taking room reservations for January, and wait-listing people for December 3 through 31.
