Severity of taxi strike in dispute: 20 to 90 pct off road

Rival taxi unions are offering up a massively different version of the severity of this morning's New York City cab strike.

First, from the union not supporting the strike, as aired on NY1 just before 9 a.m.:

“Right now the indication is that 80 percent of the drivers are out there. Nyers are erally not going to feel the heat. If they need a cab, it’s going to be readily available And only the 20 percent radicals are out there protesting.”

-- Fernando Mateo, Federation of Taxi Drivers
And from the union supporting the strike, as quoted in the New York Times:
Bhairavi Desai, organizer of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance, which called the strike, estimated this morning that 90 percent of the city’s yellow cabs were either parked in garages or in drivers’ homes and not on the road.
