New York Philharmonic's free Yo-Yo Ma rehearsal
It's not every morning you get to hear famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma play for free, but that's what the New York Philharmonic is offering September 18 as part of its Opening Day festivities.
The "free-to-the-public Dress Rehearsal" of Dvorák will start at 9:45 a.m. with tickets handed out starting at 8 a.m., one per person.
And just to make you feel classy standing in the early-morning line, (a Tuesday,) you'll be serenaded by the New York Philharmonic Principal Brass Quintet.
In case you miss the early call, as well as the posh opening night gala, the 7:30 p.m. concert will be broadcast live for free outdoors at Lincoln Center's Josie Robertson Plaza. Chairs will also be on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Philharmonic holds open rehearsals throughout the season, but for $16 plus handling fees. And the coffee's free.
Other NY Phil links: $12 student rush tickets
