Abandoned subway station tours in Sept. and Nov.
If you're keen to get into New York's best abandoned subway station, the New York Transit Museum this fall is again offering tours of the chandeliered original City Hall station.
Tickets are still available for the tours on Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, November 18.
The century-old original City Hall station is located under City Hall and is now used only for empty 6 trains to loop from the downtown to uptown platform at the Brooklyn Bridge station. It's outfitted with Guastavino arched ceilings and tiles in shades of green, brown and creme, as well as elaborate skylights and chandeliers.
Reservations and pre-payment are required. The price is $20 for adults and $10 for children. You must be a member of the Transit Museum to take part but you can buy a membership when booking a reservations. (A regular annual membership is $40.) Call (718) 694-1867 to book.
