Sopranos tour re-routed: Satriale's razed for condos

satriele.jpgYou know things are rough when even Satriale's gets whacked.

NewYorkology received an e-mail this morning from Cathy Wilke, the Director of Marketing for On Location Tours, which runs bus tours of movie and TV locations, including special Sopranos and Sex and the City tours.

She asked that an old entry about their tours be modified to indicate that the visit to Satriale's pork store has been replaced with Father Phil's parish.

In her follow up e-mail, she explained the reason for the change:

Satriale's was removed from the tour because the building is being torn down and condos are going up in its place. Bookings have definitely increased since the final episode, we've been sold out every weekend since the series ended.
The Sopranos website at HBO has sketches for the Satriale's set, and notes that it wasn't any sort of legendary neighborhood spot but rather "a fake, fully-stocked store used only for the purposes of shooting 'The Sopranos.'"

Update: The AP has more details:
Manny Costeira, the owner of the building who leased it to HBO, is demolishing it to make way for nine condos and a garage, aptly named "Soprano Court."

Costeira said construction will begin in the fall or spring and fans can buy a piece of the building.
