NYC's best uptown parking lots with subway access

lotsnyc.jpgThere's aren't very many excuses to justify driving into Manhattan, but if you insist, you should at least have a plan.

LotsNYC is one of the new parking garage guides that breaks down all the off-street options by price - and with maps. There are more than 1,000 parking lots listed.

The book, which will be updated annually, was assembled by a team who took pictures of posted prices, often at different times of day and during special events, to incorporate the stealthy fluctuations, co-author Jordan Adler told NewYorkology. The book, which hit stores four months ago, contains rates that were re-verified just five months ago.

"They do change," he said of the rates. "But the cheapest garage usually stays the cheapest and the most expensive stays the most expensive."

The maps, which are actually a little tough to read as the three shades of green are too similar, will be overhauled for the 2008 edition due out in December, Adler said.

And with an eye toward keeping cars out of the center of the city, NewYorkology asked Adler to pick the best Manhattan garages outside the proposed congestion pricing zone (which would start at 86th Street) that also have easy public transportation options. His picks are each two blocks from subway stations.

Manhattan's best parking garage's just outside the congestion-pricing zone with good subway connections:

Brooks - 95th St between Central Park W and Columbus
(Subway: A,B,C,D at 96th Street)

Central - 88th St between Amsterdam and Broadway
(Subway: 1,2,3 at 86th)

(Subway: 1,2,3 at 86th)

PAC - 87th St between Lexington and Park
(Subway: 4,5,6 at 86th)

(Subway: 4,5,6 at 96th)

The book is priced at $9.95.
