O! 'Grey Gardens' to close on Broadway on July 29
"Grey Gardens," the Tony-winning musical about Jackie Kennedy's real-life eccentric relatives, will close on Broadway on July 29, Playbill reports.
Both Christine Ebersole and Mary Louise Wilson won Tonys for their portrayals of the Beales, once socialites who were later living in a ghost-like mansion in the Hamptons making an occasional meal of cat food. The show is based on the 1975 documentary of the mother and daughter as filmed by David Maysles and Albert Maysles. Another Albert Maysles documentary, about the Broadway production of "Grey Gardens," is due for release soon.
"This production of Grey Gardens is a tribute to the Beales themselves, and we're especially proud of having helped make their dream come true. At long last these two incredible, indomitable women have been celebrated as the performers they always wanted to be," Kelly Gonda, president of East of Doheny, the lead producer of the musical, said in a statement.
At the box office, you can get plenty of discounted tickets to "Grey Gardens" starting at $26.50.
"Grey Gardens" plays the Walter Kerr Theatre, located at 219 W. 48th St., map.
