'Frozen Zone' to shrink to four blocks by Monday a.m.

The city has continued to reopen more streets near Grand Central Terminal following Wednesday's fatal steam pipe explosion. The Sunday update from the NYC Office of Emergency Management:

Sunday frozen zone: the four square block area bounded by the north side of 40th Street, the south side of 42nd Street, the west side of Third Avenue and the east side of Park Avenue.

Monday morning plan: As of 5 a.m. on Monday, July 23, all restrictions on East 42nd Street will be removed. Pedestrians and businesses will be able to access the north and south sidewalks. Vehicles will have free access. The City will be working through the night with the goal of further shrinking the frozen zone by the beginning of the work week.

Monday vehicle frozen zone: Lexington from E. 40th to E. 46th Street
Park Ave. (northbound at street level only) from E. 40th to E. 42nd Street
E. 42nd from Third Ave. to Madison
E. 41st from Third Ave. to Park
E. 42nd to 44th from Third to Lexington, except for local deliveries

Transit: Scheduled to operate with no interruptions
