FlyGlobeSpan passengers stuck at JFK up to a week
FlyGlobeSpan, one of the new low-cost carriers that started flying into New York this year, hasn't seen all smooth skies, according to media reports about a series of snafus that left hundreds of its passengers stuck at JFK for up to a week.
Stephen Elmy, Flyglobespan’s Toronto-based general manager for North America, spelled it out for the LA Times:
Initially, Elmy said, lightning struck one of the airline’s Boeing B757-200 jets, causing electrical problems that were discovered when it arrived in New York. Repairs took days.
In the meantime, he said, the airline couldn’t replace the jet because a security alert had grounded half its 21-jet fleet. The alert, which closed airports in Glasgow, Scotland, and Liverpool, for a period, was declared Saturday after two men in a flaming sport utility vehicle crashed into Glasgow’s main terminal. The company launched service in May from JFK with $129 fares to Liverpool, England and $195 to Ireland West Knock. FlyGlobeSpan currently has only six scheduled flights a week to Liverpool, (one daily, sans Friday,) and only three a week to Ireland.
