Disappointing list of under-$200 hotels in NYC

New York magazine this week has printed an extremely disappointing guide to seven under-$200 hotels in New York.

No. 1 on the list is in New Jersey; No. 6 is described as "one of the most love-it-or-hate-it of the bunch;" and the hallway at No. 7 "smelled like poo for the duration of my one-night stay."

Plus, five of the seven are priced at $199 (and the writer notes he booked online and used deals to get a cheaper rate, and his rate would have been cheaper had he stayed on a weekday rather than a weekend.)

The list:

1. Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson
2. Courtyard by Marriott Times Square South
3. Best Western Seaport Inn
4. On the Ave
5. Hampton Inn Times Square North
6. Hotel 17
7. The Pod Hotel
