'Young Frankenstein' to start on Broadway on Oct. 11
It's official. Mel Brooks' "Young Frankenstein" will come to Broadway in fall with previews starting October 11 at the Hilton Theatre, the Daily News reports. Opening night is November 8.
Tickets go on sale July 15, "with unorthodox means of ticket distribution a strong possibility," according to Variety.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein will be played by Roger Bart, the actor who originated the role of Carmen Ghia in Brooks' last big Broadway hit: "The Producers." Sutton Foster will play Inga, Shuler Hensley will play the Monster, Megan Mullally will be Elizabeth, and Christopher Fitzgerald has been cast as Igor. The role of Frau Blücher has not been cast, but in readings earlier this year, Cloris Leachman reprised her role from the 1974 movie.
Variety has more details about the show:
Music for "Frankenstein" -- with tunes such as "The Transylvania Mania" and "He Vas My Boyfriend," as well as the Monster's soft-shoe version of Irving Berlin's "Puttin' on the Ritz" -- has a 1930s sound in keeping with the era in which the story takes place, Sillerman said. Other songs in the show include "We're the Happiest Town in Town" and "There Is Nothing Like the Brain," according to Playbill.
The Hilton Theatre is located at 213 W. 42nd St., map.
