Touring New York's little waterways by tugboat

WODecker.JPGThe South Street Seaport Museum's restored 1930s-era tugboat W.O. Decker this summer is once again making public tours of some of the lesser-traveled waterways around New York City.

Since she's smaller than the typical tour boat she can only take 12 passengers, but she can fit into smaller spaces.

This Saturday, she's doing a Brooklyn Waterfront tour, which will take in Newtown Creek and the Gowanus Canal. The same tour is offered again June 30.

On June 23 and July 7, there are trips to Newark Bay via the Kill van Kull, which will also take in the ships' graveyard.

The four-hour tours cost $100 per person (or $80 for museum members,) and includes a box lunch, beverage and snack. A museum educator will be onboard to explain details about the working waterfront. Call (212) 748-8786 for information.
