Beach under construction for Brooklyn's floating pool

floatingpool.futurehome.JPG

NewYorkology was on a Hidden Harbor Tour on Wednesday evening, and among the sights was a water-side view of the Floating Lady Pool, the free public swimming pool that will soon open on the East River.

floatingpool.close.JPGIt's currently docked fairly centrally under the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, (and the Brooklyn Queens Expressway,) awaiting construction of its beach near the foot of Joralemon Street.

From the top deck of the Zephyr, it looked like there was still a lot of work to be done at Joralemon Beach ahead of the opening, planned for the week of July 4.

The pool will have a capacity of 175 people at a time and a sand beach that can accommodate up to 1,000. The will be and volleyball courts, sand soccer grounds, cabanas, beach chair rentals and hot dog and burger-type fare. (Though the Post reports today that no alcohol will be sold.)
