Original 'Old King Cole' mural returns to namesake bar
The famous century-old "Old King Cole" mural by Maxfield Parish will return to the St. Regis hotel on Friday, after undergoing its first thorough cleaning and restoration in four decades, Crain's reports.
To herald its return, the King Cole Bar will launch a new menu along with nine new Bloody Mary cocktails. (The hotel is said to be the birthplace of the Bloody Mary.)
The reinstallation of the oil paiting will cap off the hotel's $35 million refurbishment project, except for the planned September opening of Alain Ducasse's new restaurant, Adour.
The 8-foot-tall, 30-foot-wide mural has been gone since January with a replica mounted in its place behind the bar. The St. Regis is located 2 E. 55th St., map.
