Manhattanhenge 2007

Update: Manhattanhenge 2008 dates.

CORRECTION: Neil deGrasse Tyson's office originally supplied NewYorkology with the wrong dates, (May 31 and July 11) which were originally posted in the headline for this entry and in the text below. The new and improved dates for Manhattanhenge 2007 are May 30 (at 8:10 p.m.) and July 13 (at 8:20 p.m.) The text below has been modified only slightly in hopes of not making it even more confusing.

Photographers, mark your calendars.

Neil deGrasse Tyson's office has sent over the dates for this year's Manhattanhenge, the two days each year when the Sun sets in precise alignment with the Manhattan street grid, (which isn't actually set due north.)

On May XO, a Thursday, Manhattanhenge begins at 8:17 p.m.
On July XO, a Wednesday, Manhattanhenge begins at 8:25 p.m.

Tyson, the director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History, first wrote about Manhattanhenge in 2002.
