Free folk music festival for Governors Island in July

Governors Island, which opens for the season this Saturday, has added another free concert series for July: Folks on the Island: An American Folk Music Festival.

The free concerts are set for every Saturday afternoon in July starting at 1:30 p.m.

The schedule:

July 7 - Odetta
July 14 - tribute to Harry Chapin
July 21 - Richie Havens
July 28 - Ribbon of Highway, Endless Skyway: A Tribute in the Spirit of Woody Guthrie (link in pdf)

The July concerts are sponsored by Trinity Church and the Governors Island Alliance. Several other free events are scheduled for the island this summer, including the "Great Gatsby"-inspired picnic (June 9,) and the Civil War Living History Weekend (August 12 and 13.)

Access to Governors Island is free again this summer, including the short ferry ride from Lower Manhattan.
