Annual furniture-porn show at BKLYN Designs

The fifth annual BKLYN Designs show kicked off in Dumbo this morning, showcasing everything from hand-crafted rugs and furniture to NY-themed stained glass and wall-mounted animals even PETA would love.
The three-day show is housed in three locations between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, with 64 exhibitors taking part this year, (the most yet.) Many are big on sustainability, including Uhuru, whose line of furniture includes side tables (pictured above and right) made from wood salvaged from old NYC buildings and wood scraps. Among the materials they use is hard-to-find Yellow Heart Pine, a wood overharvested a century ago and used in New York City buildings now getting demolished.
Many of the craftsmen do custom-made work, so consider the outing more about looking than buying. Except that there is an annex (located at Front and Washington streets,) where items are for sale - including jewelry, clothes, pet beds, throw pillows and Glide's Twist Together Lamp ($89 at the show,) which lets you take apart the four lamp blocks and reassemble in different configurations until you discover the meaning of life.

In the front window of the annex, you can't miss Nancy Nicholson's stained glass, which is filled with urban influences from Brooklyn and Manhattan, including brownstones, the Washington Square arch and the New Yorker hotel.
The steep $12 per-day entry fee gets you into all three venues and any of that day's lectures and other events. Food is provided on site by Rice at the main location, in St. Ann's Warehouse. The third location, at Smack Mellon (facing the East River at Washinton Street,) is where you'll find designers such as the Eames/Art Deco-leaning McCullah Designs and the outpost of the 4-pli architects and builders.
As for the crazy teeth-only animals, they're made by LongoLand.
