Spider-Man Week in NYC jammed with events
"Spider-Man 3" will premire at the Tribeca Film Festival in no small way.
In addition to the U.S. premiere of the movie in Peter Parker's home stamping ground of Queens, there will be free, simultaneous screenings in all four other boroughs, midnight screenings of "Spider-Man I" and "II," a scavenger hunt at the Bronx Zoo, a live spider exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History, a create-your-own-Spidey-mask project at Toys 'R' Us on Times Square, and an exhibition of the Ultimate Spider-Man Comic Book Collection at the New York Public Library at 42nd and 5th Avenue.
All events are part of Spider-Man Week in NYC, set for April 30 to May 6.
There's more, much more.
The week kicks off April 30 with a Rockefeller Center cast appearance for the Today show (from 7 to 10 a.m.,) and ends with closing day events at the Apollo Theater, including Spider-Man inspired raps.
In between, a 60-foot inflatable Spider-Man will take up residence at the Sony Building (550 Madison Ave,) Chelsea Piers will allow kids ages 5 though 16 to "scale like Spidey" on a 30-foot rock climbing wall and Gray Line is setting up a special Spider-Man bus that will pass spots made famous in the Spider-Man movies as well as "sneak peeks at sites from Spider-Man 3."
Spidey Week also coincides with the worldwide Free Comic Book Day on May 5.
Set for a worldwide release May 4, in "Spider-Man 3" Peter Parker gains more powers from his new jet-black suit, but from his dark side. Overconfident, Spider-Man must face off against Sandman and Venom. The video game launches May 3.
See the Spider-Man website for a brief production journal entry about the May 27 NYC shooting of the "Crane Disaster scene" at the Alliance Capital Building, 1345 6th Avenue at 54th St. The site also contains a clever interactive map marking important Spider-Man locations in New York City, including the Roosevelt Island Tramway, Aunt May's house on Queens Boulevard, and the Daily Bugle, (located on E. 24th Street between 2nd and 3rd streets.)
