Six hurt in Staten Island Ferry 'hard landing'

At least six people were hurt today when a Staten Island Ferry made a "hard landing" at its St. George terminal, NY1 is reporting.
The ferry, the John Marchi, was not damaged and remained in service after the incident on the 11:30 a.m. run to Staten Island from Manhattan. The Department of Transportation chalked it up to rough waters caused by the weekend's Nor'easter.
(Editor's note: NewYorkology editor Amy Langfield did the Circle Line ferry trip this morning to Liberty and Ellis islands. A park ranger warned the ferry would possibly not depart Battery Park first thing in the morning due to the robust tide. However, the boats did leave as scheduled. But when docking at Liberty Island, the ferry was pulled away from the dock and had to circle around and make and make a second attempt.)
In 2003, another boat in the Staten Island Ferry fleet, the Andrew J. Barberi, crashed into the St. George pier, killing 11 and injuring 71 others. It was determined the ferry pilot lost consciousness due to painkillers he had taken, and no back-up pilot was on duty.
