Intrepid on the move to dry dock - watch via webcam

The Intrepid's on the move this morning, and you can watch it online via the webcam on the ship's mast.
Since the aircraft carrier was dramatically pulled from the Hudson River mud on December 5, (following a failed attempt on November 6,) it has been docked at a cruise ship mooring in Bayonne, N.J., according to the New York Times.
Today's it's moving into an adjacent dry dock where it will be placed on blocks and the water drained around it so its hull and propellers can be inspected and repaired. It will be the first time in more than 30 years the 41,000-ton historic vessel has been out of water, the Times reports.
(To see the inside of a dry dock, see NewYorkology's pictures of Brooklyn Dry Dock No. 1 when it was used to make repairs to the Mary Whalen, a former fuel tanker on track to open as another floating museum for New York.)
After two months in dry dock, the Intrepid will be towed to Staten Island for interior renovations. Pier 86, its longtime home as a martime museum on the Hudson, is undergoing massive renovations as well, (which can also be viewed via webcams on the same page as mentioned above.)
The 900-foot-long ship survived seven bomb attacks, one torpedo hit and five kamikaze strikes during World War II. In the 1960s it was NASA's primary recovery vehicle during the Mercury and Gemini space missions. It also served in the Vietnam War before it was decommissioned in 1974. In 1982, it was moved to the Hudson River where it opened to the public as the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. It is scheduled to return to Manhattan and reopen in fall 2008.
