Chumley's still closed after illegal construction collapse

Historic downtown bar Chumley's will remain closed "indefinitely" following the collapse of a chimney in the building, which dates to the 1830s. NY1 reported that construction crews -- working without a permit -- were inside when the wall collapsed.

The place had already been closed for two weeks for renovations, according to the Post, which also shared this news:

The property has been on the market since January, with an asking price of $3.75 million and a realty listing that notes "potential structural issues."
The restaurant/bar is still outfitted with a number of Prohibition-era trapdoors and secret exits, including a beautiful fake bookcase. It's located at 86 Bedford St., map.
