Mets meet 'American Idol' for anthem auditions

metslogo.bmp"American Idol" goes to the ballpark - sort of.

The Mets today are holding national anthem auditions to give five average fans the chance to front a pre-game show at Mets home games during the season.

Auditions start in Midtown today, with 25 finalists moving on to tryouts at Shea Stadium next week. Winners also get four box seats to a game and a Mets jersey.

Mets opening day is April 9. That same day, the New York Water Taxi resumes its seasonal Mets Express service to Shea Stadium from Brooklyn Army Terminal, South Street Seaport, E. 34th Street and E. 90th Street. The round-trip ticket is $18 for adults, $12 for children under 12.
