Fresh Kills Park to re-open for free bus tours
Fresh Kills Park, the 2,200-acre landfill site soon to be parkland on Staten Island, will once again open for limited tours this year, the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation announced.
The free tours -- by bus only -- will take place twice each month between April and November.
Reservations are now being accepted for the April, May and June dates (all Saturdays):
April 7, 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.
April 21, 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.
May 5, 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.
May 26, 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.
June 9, 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.
June 23, 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.
The tours will be led by the NYC Urban Park Rangers and take in sections such as the North Park, overlooking Travis and the William T. Davis Wildlife Refuge; the South Park, with views of Fresh Kills and Arden Heights; and the Richmond and Main Creek wetland areas.
