Di Fara closed by Health Dept., hopes to reopen Sat.
Di Fara Pizza is the latest high-profile eatery temporarily shut down in the health department's post-ratzapalooza crackdown in New York City eateries that may not have deserved an oh-so-clean bill of health.
Di Fara, located at 1424 Ave. J, map, way out in Brooklyn, is often considered worth a pilgrimage by foodies.
A call to the restaurant this afternoon produced Saturday as the targeted reopening date.
The Gawker blog tracked down the health report, including mention of mice poop.
The foodies are in an uproar. From the (censored) Chowhound boards: I think that for a board that is basically 1/4 dedicated to singing the praises of this restaurant and imploring people to go there, it is only right to mention that anyone who heads out in the next day or two is going to be disappointed. It seems sadistic not to post that important info. Even if the reason for the temporary shutdown is [redacted]. Meanwhile, Inside Edition is also on the rat patrol, filming mice at Gobo in Greenwich Village, a rat at FISH, and rodents at a dozen other restaurants.
The NYC Dept. of Health posts its inspection reports online, though not quite in realtime.
