Where to skate in NYC (now that Bryant Park's closed)

bryantpark.thepond.2007.JPGOh the cruel ironies of winter. Just as New York City's getting its first serious cold blast of the season, the free ice skating rink at Bryant Park, The Pond, is closing.

Today was the last day for the rink, which will be hauled off to make way for the Fashion Week tents.

The Pond will return in October 2007.

With a new sponsor this time around, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will kick off in Bryant Park on February 2, runing through February 9.

Other ice rinks in New York City:

Rockefeller Center
Wollman Rink in southern Central Park
Lasker Rink in northern Central Park
Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers (year-round)
Wollman Rink at Prospect Park, Brooklyn
Riverbank State Park off Riverside Drive

The city parks department operates a few other ice rinks, including the World's Fair Ice Skating Rink in Queens and the Abe Stark Rink at the Coney Island Boardwalk.

Earlier: Bryant Park free skate, or Suits on Ice, until Jan. 15
