Splash Tours bus/boat aiming for spring launch

splash.timessquare.JPGIt looks like Gray Line and Coach USA will be the first ones into the water.

Come spring, they plan to launch New York City's "first and only land-water experience" under the name New York Splash Tours, according to the company website.

The duck-style tour bus will pick up tourists in Times Sqaure, make a short jaunt around Midtown West and head for a pier on the Hudson River. There, guests will get a multimedia experience simulating an Atlantic Ocean crossing, then will actually hit the Hudson without leaving their seat in the same bus/boat. The online map indicates just a short loop out into the water, then back to land.

splashmap.JPGNeither tickets nor prices were yet available, but a ticketing agent said the launch is planned for spring. Other company officials did not return phone calls seeking further comment. The website states reservations will be accepted starting in April.

New York Splash Tours has been among several companies trying to bring duck-style tours to New York City in the past several years. Big Apple Ducks, which planned to launch its boats after a drive from Times Square to Brooklyn's Red Hook waterfront, has disconnected its phones.
