Magnolia Bakery sold, new owner vows no changes

lazysunday.magnoliabakery.JPGMagnolia Bakery, made famous by its cupcakes, famouser by "Sex and the City" and doubler-famouser by the Saturday Night Live "Lazy Sunday" rap video, has been sold by the baker who gave rise to the New York City cupcake craze.

The news comes from the New York Times and the Post, which report that Allysa Torey has sold the West Village store to her friend Steven Abrams, a partner at the popular Red Cat restaurant in Chelsea.

"Every single thing is staying the same," he told the Post. "We have no expansion plans at the moment."

Torey, who will stay on as a consultant, plans to use her extra time to write more cookbooks. So far she has three in the Magnolia cookbook series.

Magnolia Bakery is located at 401 Bleecker St., map, with the line perpetually winding around West 11th Street.
