'Beauty' closing on Broadway for 'Little Mermaid'

beautyandthebeast.JPG"Beauty and the Beast" will close on Broadway July 29 after 13 years of performances to make way for another Disney production, "Little Mermaid," according to Playbill and the New York Times.

"Mermaid" will begin previews November 3 at the Lunt-Fontanne theater with opening night set for December 6. It will join Disney's other Broadway fare: "Lion King," "Mary Poppins," and if it lasts that long, "Tarzan."

"Beauty and the Beast," whose tickets are often available at TKTS for half price, is the sixth longest-running show in Broadway history.
