34th Street Heliport to start airport shuttles Feb. 5
Manhattan’s 34th Street Heliport on February 5 will start hosting regular weekday airport shuttle service to JFK and Newark, US Helicopter Corp. said Tuesday.
The price of the eight minute flights start at $169 each way, plus security fees.
Twenty flights a day will alight from the new East River outpost: 10 to JFK International Airport and 10 to Newark Liberty International Airport. 34th Street will “initially serve the afternoon demand” the company said in a statement. (Details in pdf format.) The service will supplement US Helicopter’s exiting Wall Street Heliport service to Newark and JFK airports. There, flights start at $159 each way.
Passengers at both heliports will pass through TSA-compliant security checkpoints, allowing them to skip security at the airports if they are transferring to US Helicopter’s airport partner. At JFK, it’s American Airlines; at Newark it’s Continental Airlines. Passengers using other airlines need to travel to another terminal and stand in line for airport security.
LaGuardia Airport doesn’t yet have regular helicopter service. Talk of providing a ferry from Manhattan to LaGuardia stalled after Circle Line Harbor Cruises dropped plans a year ago and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey hasn’t yet sought new offers.
