What's open on Christmas and New Year's Day in NY

The list below is for a Christmas past, please see the 2008 list of what's open Christmas in NYC and the see the 2009 list of what's open New Year's Day.

With the mish-mash of cultures in New York City, don't expect everything to be closed for Christmas, or even New Year's Day. In addition to the always-there options -- including the Brooklyn Bridge, Staten Island Ferry, Central Park and Rockefeller Center -- there are plenty of other attractions open for the holidays.

Christmas Day

Radio City Christmas Spectacular - Shows at 1, 4 and 7 p.m.
Empire State Building - Open from 11 a.m. to midnight
Top of the Rock - Open 8 a.m. to midnight
The Rink at Rockefeller Center - Open 8:30 a.m. to midnight
The Pond at Bryant Park - Open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Wollman Rink in Central Park - Open 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Central Park Carousel - Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.-ish (maybe as late as 5:30 p.m.)
Jewish Children's Museum - Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Jewish Museum - Open 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Museum of Jewish Heritage - Open 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
Madame Tussauds Wax Museum - Open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Restaurants open Christmas Day

Guggenheim Museum - Open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Museum of Modern Art - Open 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
New-York Historical Society - Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
New York Botanical Garden - Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Museum of the Moving Image - Open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
NY Hall of Science - Open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Liberty and Ellis Islands - Ferries depart 9:30 a.m. to 3:40 p.m.
Met Opera - 'Magic Flute" matinee in English and "Die Zauberflöte" in German at night
Merchant's House Museum - Open noon to 5 p.m.
Jewish Children's Museum - Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Museum of Jewish Heritage - Open 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
Empire State Building - Open from 11 a.m. to midnight
Top of the Rock - Open 8 a.m. to midnight
