Cult-fave 'Xanadu' coming to Broadway in May 2007

xanadu.JPG"A place where nobody dared to go," and yet, here it comes. ...

"Xanadu," the Olivia Newton-John/Michael Beck/Gene Kelly movie that was big when roller skates were mandatory, will hit Broadway starting in May, according to Variety.

The Broadway musical will possibly feature Jane Krakowski and Cheyenne Jackson, who both participated in a recent workshop for the show. In the 1980 movie, the Greek muses come to life, including Kira, who inspires her charge to open a hot new roller disco.

(Watch them dance to life to ELO’s “I’m Alive” through the magic of You Tube. Or better yet, see if he can open the roller disco -- spoiler alert!)

The musical will play Helen Hayes Theater starting sometime in May.

Also in the works for Broadway is "Shrek," scheduled for 2008, according to the Post; "Grease," which will open in June 2007; "Legally Blonde," which begins previews April 3, 2007; and "Young Frankenstein," for fall 2007.
