Crowded? 44 million tourists visited NYC in 2006
About 44 million tourists visited New York City during 2006, including 7 million foreigners, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Wednesday. That's an increase from last year's 42.6 million, and also a fair stab at reaching Bloomberg's goal of hitting the 50 million mark by 2015.
This winter, the city's official tourism bureau, NYC & Co., will target Londoners, Italians, Irish and the Spanish with the lure of the weak dollar. The campaign will highlight slow periods in the city, such as Feb. 1 through 19, according to Newsday.
